Executive Director of Development
 
The Executive Director of Development will provide leadership for all functions related to voluntary fund development.  Development, management, and administration of external relations and community programs, including fundraising, grant writing, media relations, volunteer programs, and community relations.  This position reports to the Divisional Secretary.
 
Primary duties include:
 
  1. Receives assignments and participates in DFB meetings covering agenda items pertaining to development issues.
  2. Work with corps locations on capital campaigns, needs analysis, corps advisory board development and fundraising.
  3. Planning and managing the annual Christmas fundraising campaign for the Kansas City Metro Area.
  4. Manage the staff in the Development Department and develop their professional skills.
  5. Oversee the development program for Kansas City, including annual giving, planned giving, direct mail and working directly with major donors.
  6. Oversee the Division’s development program, including annual giving, planned giving, direct mail, and service extension.
  7. Supervises staff located in both divisional headquarters and embodied in corps areas.
  8. Communicate with Advisory Board members, including prospective members.
  9. Work with outside consultants on matters such as direct mail, Radiothon, internet, public relations, leadership gifts, capital campaigns and financial feasibility studies.
  10. Oversees various special events such as the annual civic event, Radiothon, Rock the Red Kettle, and the creation of any new events.
  11. Working closely with corporate and Foundations Specialist to manage and facilitate relationships with foundations.
  12. Planning and coordinating the Kansas City Annual Meeting.
  13. Conduct staff meetings, attend fund development conferences, and conduct information exchanges within The Salvation Army.
 
The position supervises four (4) direct reports and 25 secondary employed reports.
