Senior Services of Snohomish County

MISSION
To promote independence, preserve dignity, and enhance the quality of life through the provision of services for older adults and people with disabilities.

VISION
By the end of this decade through our collective efforts, older adults,
people with disabilities, and those who care for them, will have access to all of the resources and services needed to maintain their independence,
promote healthy aging, and live a quality of life.

Senior Services of Snohomish County is a not-for-profit, cornerstone organization serving and improving the lives of the elderly and individuals with disabilities throughout Snohomish County since its founding in 1974. Its vitally comprehensive complement of social service offerings is reflective of their five core values:

Service:  We provide the highest level of service; we always strive for excellence.

Integrity:  We hold ourselves to the highest level of standards; we are transparent and accountable in what we say and do.

Respect:  We recognize the dignity and worth of every individual; we treat people with professionalism and compassion.

Diversity: We embrace all people within our community and our workplace.

Innovation:  We pursue continuous improvement and creativity.

The primary service areas offered by Senior Services of Snohomish County (SSSC) include:
  • Nutrition:  Meals-on Wheels; Senior Dining/Congregate Meals; Senior Farmer’s Market; Community Partner Meals.
  • Home Repair:  Minor Home Repair; Home Solutions (social enterprise).
  • Transportation:  DART -  Dial-A-Ride Transportation; TAP – Transportation Assistance Program; Snohomish County Transportation Coalition (SNOTRAC).
  • Social Services: Aging & Disability Resources (Information & Assistance); Housing Social Services; Family Caregiver Support; Multicultural Outreach; Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors (SHIBA); Senior Companion Program; and Elder Abuse Prevention.
  • Wellness:  Mental Health Access; Depression Screening; Senior Peer Counseling; Care Coordination; Chronic Disease Self-Management; Dental Clinic; Enhanced Wellness.
  • Publications: Senior Focus Newspaper and Senior Source Resource Guide.
Over the past 25 years SSSC developed 18 senior housing communities for low-income seniors and are proud to have had the opportunity to create 743 apartments for seniors who lacked affordable housing options.  In 2014, SSSC’s Board of  Directors made the decision to transfer ownership and management of their Housing service to organizations whose primary purpose is to maintain and operate affordable housing. The sale and transfer of ownership of these properties are targeted for completion by the end of 2015.  SSSC believes it can continue to best serve its mission through the delivery of quality services rather than owning and operating apartments.

Last year SSSC served more than 38,000 seniors and people with disabilities through 24 programs with 175 staff and almost 250 volunteers who contributed 20,163 hours of service valued at $538,762 in support of its mission.  SSSC, like many not-for-profit organizations, is developing social enterprise businesses to provide additional revenue, and in 2014, started their first business with the opening of the Opportunity Shoppe – a 2nd Hand Boutique in Everett, Washington that specializes in thrift, home décor and furniture. Home Solutions – a home repair business was launched this year and SSSC also expanded its Dial-a-Ride transportation to Sundays and holidays.

Their generous “gifts of independence” in the form of providing nutritious meals, safe housing, accessible transportation and access to services, are generously underwritten by community sponsors, private foundations, civic organizations and corporate partners, and are delivered across all of Snohomish County by a compassionate and deeply committed staff and heartfelt volunteer corps.
