Broadmead’s mission is to foster independence, growth, and the opportunities in elderhood by supporting a dynamic community, providing exceptional health services, developing collaborative relationships and upholding Quaker values.

Broadmead’s vision is to be a leader in the development of high quality, innovative solutions that enrich the lives of older people, promote relationships and create opportunities as it extends its mission of service in the Quaker tradition.

In 2013, The Broadmead Residents Association and Board of Trustees welcomed a new CEO, John Howl, to the Broadmead team. One of Mr. Howl’s first priorities was to work with The Board of Trustees to conduct an examination of Broadmead’s campus, programs, residents and staff satisfaction. This process surfaced the need to make important capital improvements on the campus and the development of the three-year Strategic Plan. Broadmead acted to implement key initiatives identified in the plan and invested more than $3.5 million in master planning, residential design enhancements, safety systems, Health & Wellness space and equipment, and campus-wide Wi-Fi technology.

As the next step in the Strategic Plan, and through collaboration with Johns Hopkins HealthCare, LLC, Broadmead is creating a Center of Excellence in Dementia Care, and a Center of Excellence in Health and Wellness. A “Center of Excellence” is a specialty program and approach to care and quality of life supported by validation, often in the form of data, academic research and collaboration that attracts national attention for its level of quality and innovation. A Center of Excellence involves physical space coupled with specialized programming and resources. Each Center of Excellence has a dedicated workgroup comprised of Johns Hopkins Medicine specialists in the area of dementia or health and wellness, as well as Broadmead Residents and members of Broadmead’s leadership team.

These Centers, along with other identified capital improvements, will take Broadmead on a journey forward in 2017 with its growth and expansion plan. Enhancing philanthropy will be essential to the full realization of Broadmead’s Strategic Plan.

The Opportunity: Vice President of Advancement & Communication

The Vice President of Advancement & Communication will create strategies for Broadmead, ensuring resources are in place and implementing a program to dramatically propel the philanthropic culture and outcomes of the organization.
