HISTORY
The Orange County Rescue Mission (OCRM) was established in 1965 by Reverend Lewis Whitehead, a career U.S. Marine, who devoted his life to helping the poor and homeless after encountering an encampment under an Orange County bridge. He and his network of volunteers built the framework for the county's first rescue mission, which operated in an old storefront building in Santa Ana. In 2008, OCRM opened the “Village of Hope”, their 192-bed transitional housing program, on the 5-acre site of the former Tustin Marine base. Once the two decommissioned U.S. Marine Corps barracks were remodeled into dormitory-style rooms to accommodate families and single adults, with contributed construction in great part by the local building industry, OCRM moved its operation to this new campus. This vital nonprofit, Christian organization currently provides three transitional sites and three supportive (fixed rent) housing sites, plus, two transitional and three supportive outside of Orange County, in addition to multiple outreach programs. OCRM has an entire fleet of mobile vehicles that can provide medical care, free legal resources, and a warm meal. Last year, OCRM served 1,200,537 meals, gave 359,345 clothing provisions, 264,535 shelter and bed nights, 60,203 medical care, and, 33,040 toys, school supplies and children’s items.

Jim Palmer, President of the Orange County Rescue Mission since 1992, notes, “All of this would not have been possible if it were not for the generosity of the City of Tustin and its residents. I am proud of the City of Tustin, our Mayors over the years, its City Council and staff, for their leadership and vision. Tustin is a model for the rest of Orange County. We in Tustin are ending homelessness one life at a time.”

The Opportunity: DONOR RELATIONS MANAGER (aka Major Gifts Officer)

The Donor Relations Manager plays an integral role in the continued success and funding of OCRM’s $20 million social and human service enterprises. While the Orange County Rescue Mission has secured the mainstay of its contributed income through direct mail in the past, it is now focused on building donor relationships based on a major gift strategy of building 1:1 relationships that further engage the donor in mission. This new position will identify, qualify, be assigned, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donors and prospects, acting as the primary contact between the donor and OCRM. Emphasis will be placed on moving donors to higher levels of engagement with the Orange County Rescue Mission’s ministry, resulting in an increase in major gifts, including planned giving support, over time. The initial goal for their donor portfolio is to increase the YOY, year over year, donation value.
